IEEF Holds Limited Meeting During FORKOM FKIP Event in Palembang

Palembang, 19-22 September 2024 – The Indonesian English Education Forum (IEEF) held a limited meeting during the FORKOM FKIP event in Palembang from September 19-22, 2024. Representatives from various universities across Indonesia attended the session, focusing on the future direction of the association. The meeting was led by Supriyono from Universitas Siliwangi, who is also the current chairman of IEEF.
In his opening remarks, Supriyono emphasized that the formation of the IEEF was aimed at enhancing the professionalism of its members and contributing significantly to the improvement of English education in Indonesia. He underscored the importance of delivering high-quality programs with a wide-reaching impact, a sentiment that was echoed by the other participants.
Nasir, a representative from Universitas Sriwijaya (Unsri), agreed, stating that the association should take the lead in improving education in Indonesia. Similarly, Pak Lalu from Universitas Cenderawasih highlighted the need for IEEF to become a role model for other associations by implementing well-structured, impactful programs.
Dian from Syah Kuala University, Banda Aceh, offered a collaboration in journal management, proposing a partnership that would assist lecturers and students in publishing their research. Meanwhile, Siti from Universitas Terbuka (UT) mentioned that UT was in need of instructors for its remote classes and encouraged members interested in the opportunity to apply.
Supriyono expressed his optimism about the future of IEEF, envisioning it as an independent, dignified association and a strategic partner to the government in enhancing the quality of education in Indonesia. He also announced that the IEEF’s upcoming activities would include an international conference in Lombok in 2025, along with other academic initiatives.
This meeting marks an important step for IEEF as it strengthens its role in the field of English education and positions itself as a leader in the development of professional standards for educators across the country.
